01Do I need to own Fallout 4?
Yes. Fallout MP is a mod, not a game. You need your own copy of Fallout 4 on PC, and every player on a server needs one too.
02Can I play now?
Yes. Fallout MP is live with a stable build available through the Discord. Development continues, and the Discord is also where new releases and changelogs are announced.
03What actually works right now?
One shared Commonwealth with a clock and weather the server sets. Players you can see move, aim, shoot and reload, with the shooter’s own game deciding the hit. Grenades, missiles and mines that land once. Power armour somebody can watch you climb into. Settlements built together through the game’s own workshop mode. Inventories, levels, perks, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and caps the server keeps, saved by the gamemode and handed back when you log in. Doors, locks and containers everyone agrees on, loose items that go to whoever reaches them, and placed NPCs the server owns and walks, any of which can follow a player as a companion. Appearance, outfits and weapons that read the same to everybody. Positional voice mixed by the game’s own audio engine. Radio stations a script puts on the Pip-Boy’s dial. Interfaces built as web pages over the game, and the game’s own HUD and dialogue wheel driven by script. Content a server streams to you as you join. A server browser in the main menu. A dedicated server for Windows and Linux, scriptable end to end in TypeScript, with a default gamemode that is a base for roleplay. The features page takes each of those apart, and says plainly what is still missing.
04Will it work with my other mods?
Often, but nothing is guaranteed. Fallout MP loads alongside other mods and plenty of them behave, with cosmetic ones the safest bet. Anything that changes the world, the scripts or the game’s own data can desynchronise players, and a server can hand you its own content on join, so the surest setup is the one the server asks for. If something breaks, say so in the Discord - we would rather hear about it.
05How many players can share a server?
Up to 512. A server starts at 32 and the owner raises it with maxplayers in server.json. The networking is not what stops you, so in practice the limit is the host’s hardware and how much work the server’s scripts do per tick.
06Can I run my own server?
Yes. The server is a dedicated binary for Windows and Linux, configured by a single server.json, with its own folder of resources. It is announced in the public masterlist only when you give it a server token, so a private server stays private.
07What language do I write server scripts in?
TypeScript or JavaScript. Resources are folders the server loads at startup, written against the same API the default gamemode uses. The scripting page carries the full reference, generated from the server itself.
08Does it work on Xbox or PlayStation?
No. Fallout MP is PC only and depends on modifying the game client, which consoles do not allow.
09Is this made by Bethesda?
No. Fallout MP is an independent fan project with no connection to Bethesda Softworks or ZeniMax Media. It is built with the help of the MafiaHub team and their technology.
Built with MafiaHub
We bring people
into other worlds
Fallout MP is built with the help of the MafiaHub team and their open-source Framework. The networking, the entity streaming and the TypeScript scripting layer under the mod come from it, and so do its dedicated server, masterlist and scripting API.
